Farmall Super c engine

I am looking for info. on a engine, it is in a super C. # on block C 123 37081 E. I think the engine has been changed. Is there any to tell by the # on the block? It is in a 1953. Thanks Gary

Your best way to tell if a major part of the tractor such as the engine block has been changed is to look at the casting codes. Every major component has a marking that will look like a screw head followed by two numbers and a letter and another screw head. These indicate the day, month, and year (in that order). The letter code that indicates the year is Y for 1953, and Z for 1954. Check your tractor, the dates will probably span a period of several months and the engine will likely be the newest. Sam

Thanks Sam for the reply. That is the #s that I can't read I can see that it is a 123 engine but the block # looks like that it might be a 140 engine. will they bolt up? On the right side of the block there is a half moon where there should be a bolt in the bell housing. Just trying to figure out what it is. Gary

The chunk out of the block means it is a power unit engine. Seriel number suggests maybe late '56 or '57. Check for date codes as tractorsam said. But the date codes are ordered month, day, year. B is '56 and C is '57.

THIS ENGINE RUNS GOOD BUT I PLAN ON RESTORING THIS TRACTOR. SHOULD I USE THIS OR I HAVE A 1954 123 OUT OF A SUPER C THAT I COULD REBUILD ? THANKS GARY

That question is definitely in the "whatever suits you" category. My personal opinion is that you can't use a power unit C-123 in a tractor and call it restored. It may be "fixed up" but it isn't restored. But that is just me. Others will view it differently.

Jim,thanks for the info and advice. I will rebuild the one out of the 54 super C, just needed some one to give me a little push. Thanks Gary
