ring endgap

cub manual doesnt give ring endgap per inch of bore. i was thinking .006". my cub engine is bored .040" over. new .040" rings are showing a averdage of .021" end gap. any info on subject will be of help. block has a light hone and was checked out by a good machine shop. thanks, d. coleman

For a watercooled gasoline engine, .003" of ring gap per inch of bore is pretty much typical.

On a cub, it has to be .007 to .017 to be within tolerance.

thanks, i'll have to go with the clearance i'm coming up with. the side clearance is .0015". dont have the money to put into a rebore at this o/h. pistons are IH cast iron and id like to try to get the most out of them. d. coleman
