Part number cross reference.

Went to an auction last weekend and bought a pallet of odd and end pieces. Turns out buried in the mix is a lot of NOS parts with IH numbers on them. Is there any way to find out what the part is using only the number?

yes there is a way... To Identify, you can go blind thru parts books, or if you have access to a set of 19xp books, they will get you from the 10-20 titan thru the 560. Anything later and you need the Surplus Parts Identification Cards or Where Used Cards. Superscedence manuals are a plus, and so are merchandisers. These resources wont get you everything, as there are parts that were released via service bulletins, and never get mentioned anyplace else... I attached the pic of my set of XP series books. If you need them, they generally run $50-$200 per book depending on series and condition.

Try GOOGLING the part #. Often, but not always, you will get results pointing to what the part is.

You could email, call, write, stop in to CNH and tell them they should put a where used parts lookup on their website (like the guys that make the big green tractors...)
