I noticed yesterday when moving from idle to full throttle it would hesitate before catching up which was not normal. I pull it in the 3000# class and normally at about 200" the load is catching up and the gov will kick in and get another 15 or 20'then the gov kicks in again before it finally will pull completely down. Yesterday it never kicked in at all and we were done at 157'. The track was heavy from a rain the day before. Is this a bad spring or something else or all the above. Any suggestions

Mac, There is a fork and truster bearing on the shaft. If the spring and fork are not broken the bearing may be shoot. Is there alot of play in the linkage? Oldiron29

Pull the cover plate on the side of the governor and take a look inside. You can move the throttle control and see if you have movement in the governor. There should be a pair of springs on the governor weights. Also the governor weight pins can wear and stick. Also check the linkage at the top of the governor to the carburator and make sure it's not binding.
