Hydraulic or gear oil

What does the transmission for a super A take? My manual says SAE 90 but I was wondering if hydraulic transmission oil or gear lube and what weight. I am going to put cheaper stuff in at first, run it a while then drain. Just want to be sure to use the right stuff. My manual also says 5 1/2 quarts. Sorry if I sound confusing.

My opinion would be to stay with the 90W. I got a IHC Cub wherein the prior owner had filled with Hy-tran. The Hy-tran ran out of every seal like a small flood.

Anything works, but the heavier the grease the easier it is to keep it in the gaskets and seals. I use 85w90 or 90w140 and can't tell the difference.

the cub only holds 3 1/2 pints of hy-tran anymore and it will pour out of the seals
also a cub is bad about getting water in the trans if left ouside in the rain

My cub lives indoors. It doesn't like unleaded gas. Unless I doctor the gas with atf, sea foam, marvel mo, or lead substitute, the valves will stick open. Even the JD B enjoys some kerosene with its gas.
