Can a regular 12V timing light be used to time a 1948 cub with 6V Mag?

Yes. Attach the timing light to #1 plug wire on its inductive lead.
Use a 12v battery or car, and attach a wire to the tractor from ground of car to ground of tractor. Negative of car, to tractor frame. Then hooh the timing light to the pos post of the 12 volt car battery, and the black lead to the tractor chassis. The tractor battery is not used at all, so its polarity will not affect anything.
