i would like to convert my m to live hydrulics i think i have the right dist assembly but i am trying to buy a used pump i have looked at a couple 1 m and w 1 ithink is ih off smta can any one give me some part #s or tell me how many different pumps there are if all will work and is there more to the change over than taking old dist off and replacing pump and dist

There are different ones. I don't know which one fits. I do know they wont all fit your M. We ran into that when we tried to do the same thing.

An older post discussed this.its alittle than complicated just installing a pump.you mey have to change timeing gears,amoung other things,as was previously dis cussed

I put live hyd on my old m about thirty years ago, if I remember correctly you need a different timing gear AND the plate that goes between the cover and block. I'm pretty sure the ones from a super or a 400 will work.

The serial Number split is 228082 and up have the correct bolt pattern and better gears for a IH OEM pump. The older tractors can (and often do) have cam gear failures when used with the pump. The best gears are from 400 and 450s. They are stout.
The front casting needs to come off and the radiator removed to replace the front cover if your serial is lower. It is a mid 1950 number. Jim
