Farmall H alternator

What automobile alternator can I obtain from a junk yard that will fit without modifying the hood on a H Farmall for my 12V conversion? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Why not use a generator off of a 560 diesel?

Nothing to change, cut, fabricate or re-engineer. Just bolt it on.

I have an H with a big old Chrysler generator under the hood. I think the important thing is how you design your bracket and using maybe a shorter belt.

I used a GM alternator, I had to grind a little off the fins, and off the lip of the valve cover, but I did it... I also have a picture of an H setup with a homemade bracket that brought the alternator lower. I can email that if you are interested. Why do you want to switch?... if it turns over slow with 6 volt, try heavier battery cables.

Hitachi from Nissan 721 PU from mid 1980s.
Bolt in easily. L terminal goes to Ignition through an idiot light (not a LED type) or Diode, The S terminal goes directly to the big stud output terninal, and the big terminal goes to the Amp Gauge on the same side as the Vr was attached (with a #10 wire. Jim

It would sire be a lot simpler to just get your starter fixed and then with new cables yours would start and run on 6v sure would save a lot of rewiring bulb changin and withou a doubt asking more questions

The original generator from the H can be stepped up to 12v also. Last one I had done cost me $35, which included some new parts. The generator can be converted to neg grd as well if so desired.

Thanks to those that have taken the time to try to help me learn. I have helped others on their topics over the years. It is fun to help others.
I find most people on this forum are very helpful.
