Proper oil for MD

What't the recommended oil for MD engine and injector pump? I was thinking rotella 15-40, but was wondering if a straight weight would be better, especially for the injection pump? Any answers appreciated.

i dont see anything wrong with 15-40, as thats what i use. todays oils are much improved over the old straight grade from 50-60 yrs ago. its even hard to buy straight grade oil in places.i use the same oil in the pump also, straight grade is good too for the pump. but as long as the engine oil is diesel recomended.probably be a debate coming over oil.maybe an oil expert can explain differences.

15-40 is great. Delo or Rotella are my favorites. Jim

I don"t have my manual handy right now, but I"m pretty sure its says 10w in the pump, and 10 or 30w in the engine depending on temps. I don"t see a problem with 15-40 in the engine, but I would use whats recomended in the pump. Those get very expensive to rebuild.
