806 Rear axle....

Noticed last night that the right rear axle has a clean ring around the axle about 1/4" out from the axle housing. I put some marks on it and ran it this morning and the marks are still there. I am thinking there might be some slack in in the bearing. How can I tighten it up if I need to. Can a guy shim it up with removing the wheel and hub. The left side seems OK. Thanks Dan

Yup that's how it is done remove the hub then the axle cap with seal the shims are right there. You will probably find it is more than just a shim or 2 though. I mean the tractor is 40years old. It probably wont be that simple .I hope it is.

To decrease the end play in the axle you will need to remove shims. BUT if your axle is loose it is because you have a bearing that is failing. You need to correct the cause, not just address the symptom.
