How to get on a super A?

I was reading the post below as to adding a step to assist in getting on an a. I was wondering, what is the proper way to get on, from the back or front? How do most of you do it?

I've been climbing on from the front with only a Woods belly mower for a step, seems climbing up over the seat would be a lot more difficult, unless you have an implement on the front blocking access.

Lower yourself down into the seat with a sky hook.
Best way I have found. LOL

Had the same problem with the Allis Chalmers B's C's and CA's. I built steps for them to get on from the front.

lol i have the same problem with my new cub, the best way i had found so far is to step on the drawbar with the right foot, grab the steering post [ where the steering wheel upper bearing is] then put your left foot on the pivot for the rear 1 point hookup and then place right foot over the seat on the operaters platform, BE SURE to scrape your leg on the battery box in the process lol, my biggest problem is getting back off the thing, now today i just got my handy factory made plow depth control put on for the plow, and turned the drawbar to the front, i should have to put 2 bolts in and hook it up, now with that handel in place and the drawbar on the other way im trying to figure out how im going to get on it now

I always get on in the front. It helps if you have the front cultivators on then you can use that as a step. Or the belly mower helps a little also. I have the delux seat so it makes it real hard to get on from the back.

If you got a running start maybe you could jump in. I used to get on my Allis C by putting one foot on the drawbar and stepping up over the seat onto the footrest, which was fairly handy.

I have the same problem getting on my A, B, and Cub. It seems that back then the IHC engineers forgot the fact that people need to get on and off these tractors. At least with the C's and above you can get on from the rear and side, but with the smaller tractors, as someone said, you need to be dropped in from above with a sky hook. I usually get on from the back, but sometimes get on from the side. Either way you have to get your feet under the steering wheel. I am not a large person, so I think it would be really difficult if you were a larger person. Roger

The A is the worst tractor for a 77 year old person like me to craul off of and the John Deere M is the next. Many a leg or arm or ribs must have been broken climing these freaks. ---------Harold

That is one reason my cub still has a mower deck under her. That make one heck of a great step to step up on. Used to work for a guy who had a B and what a pain in the *&*^%& it was to get on and off of. Good Luck Kenny

When I was younger (about 60 years younger) I did it like this;
From the back, put left foot on drawbar & left hand on back of seat. While pulling self up put right foot on right rear tire & reach for steering wheel with right hand. Swing left foot between seat & right leg & plop yourself into the seat.

Now that I'm much older I have a blade on the front with struts back to rear wheel housings & I just step on that with my right foot & climb on.

Judging by the way there's an open spot on the platform, you're supposed to climb on the tractor from the front.

I can swing my leg up there and pull myself up on in one single bound, but I'm sure it's not pretty to watch. For some of you older fellows, I gotta imagine it's like climbing Mt. Everest.

IH apparently figured that farmers were pretty limber and strong, OR they assumed there would always be an attachment on there that you could use as a step.

climb up the cultivators when they are on... Step on the drawbar (it is turned around to the front) when the plow is on... Otherwise I put my foot inside of the right side wheel weight using it as a step and the steering wheel as a handle and climb over the tire onto the platform...

Something seems to have changed about the offset tractors. I bought my A when I was in my late twentys ans never noticed it being hard to get on until a few years ago.

I sure wish "Hughie" were still alive, this board"s off-set Farmall contributor. Imagine what a wonderful/colorful posting he could make...maybe something alone the lines of "the mind is more willing than the body at times". Thanks for the interesting post.

I salute you fellows who can get on from the rear or, even more difficult, the front. (I cannot even imagine getting on from the front!!! You guys are joking - right?)
I much prefer mounting from the right side, by stepping first on the cultivator tool bar.
