leak after changing my International 240's trans fluid

I am getting my 240 in order and changed the transmission
fluid... crappy brown fluid came out... I put hytran fluid as the
owners manual said in up to the fill hole and am now seeing a
drip where the drive shaft comes out of the transmission...

So I am figuring that gear oil (either 90w or 140w) might be in
order... It is a bit of a grinder to get into gear if you don't start in
gear with the clutch depressed (then it shifts just fine most of
the time) so I am figuring the heavier oil might help here to...

I just wanted to run this pass some people who probably forgot
more about tractors then I know :)

thanks

I recently filled my Super A with 90 weight oil and the problem I had was that by the time the oil is coming out the level plug there is still a lot of oil up in the gears due to the thickness of the oil and how long it takes to settle down into the bottom of the transmission. So maybe it is leaking out because now the level might be to high once all the oil has settled. Of course mine was leaking out the PTO seal, which probably needs to be replaced, but after a day or two it stopped. maybe giving it a little time might fix the problem. Can guarantee that is the problem but hopefully it helps.

Look to the right of the PTO shaft about 2 o clock. The plate has a hole in it to access a plug. Takes a 1/4" extension. On level ground remove the plug and quit filling when it reaches this level. Be sure to replace the plug. I used 90 WT gear lube in my 240. The hydraulics do not use the trans/rear end fluid. Seperate reservoir is in the frame under the fuel tank. David....................

Thanks... when I added it I did add to the overflow plug then let
it sit for an hour and weep the excess...

It's also possible that as farmer_adam says it could be over full
from oil weeping down from the gears... I'll check that next time
I'm down

I think I am going to run the rest of the summer with the hytran
and just check the level then come fall switch it over to 90wt...

btw that is one clean tractor... I consider mine clean but yours...
wow...

do you have a pic of the back from a little more left... on ours
there is a lever that dangles that looks like it should hook up just
behind the cylinder... have no idea what it does and where it
looks like it should hook up it does not reach... I'll take a pic and
create another post if you have no idea what I'm talking about...
if you do know what I'm talking about what is it supposed to
do???

thanks
