C-254 cultivator (how narrow will it go)

I am attempting to mount my cultivator to my super C. I have ordered books from Binders but they have not arrived yet.
So I am shooting in the dark.
After planting on 32" rows I need to cultivate this week. My first clue I may be in trouble was when the rear part (track plows?) would not hook up to the axle with the tires set at 64" (the tires got in the way). I moved the wheels out on the axles and will mount it tomorrow. I figured it would be easier working on rusty bolts with the unit mounted to something.
Just wondering IF I am wasting my time and possibly should be working on one of my other cultivators.
Thanks
Ken

Hi Ken,
I got my C279 black land planter up and working and I too am getting my cultivators hooked up. I planted on 38" rows and have my wheels set at 76" on center.
I set up 2-8' 2x4's on the ground 38" apart to simulate the rows. After that it was pretty self explanitory to me what has to be loosened and moved. Between the 2x4's and a tape measure I got it looking good and symetrical.
I have the C254 cultivators with the #10 tool bars, full shields and the C-53-C fertilizer units. I have ordered new drive chains and then they will be operational. I got lucky and got the C-254 owners manual with the tractor.
On the front frames I created alot of extra work for myself by not getting the tool bars close 1st and then moving the shanks. There's a tip there:) Also leave enough adjustment so that you can be very close to the plants when they are small and be able to move the shanks out as the plants grow and the root sytem expands.
The back mounted cultivators were already set up for 38" rows on mine.
I ended up with alot of extra planter and cultivator parts if you need anything. I also have the front mounted skip row middlebusters that I'm not going to keep. I have a fast hitch on mine and have a set of 3 bottom FH middlebusters.

Just got home and looked at the C254 owners manual and most all the "front section" tool packages are adjustable from 34" to 42" rows. The #56 and #111 tool packages are adjustable from 28" to 42" rows. The rear section can be adjusted from 28" to 42" rows. It shows the bow at the top of the assembly shortened up. Looks like their are multiple holes to adjust the assembly.

Great thanks Dean.
I wasn't sure if it would work. Recon I didn't think about cultivating when I planted.. oops... A steep learning curve..
I haven't had the chance to work on my black land planter. I cheated when I planted (had to get em in the ground). I used the tool bar off of my middle buster and mounted a green planter. It actually worked GREAT. I was thinking of sanding it and painting it IH blue. Think anyone would notice?

The 2x4 is a good idea..

I have at least 2 different cultivators hopefully one will work. My book is coming express and should be here Monday. In the meantime I have one in the shop and am working on loosening a few nuts and bolts. Have to work all weekend so only have a few hours evenings to work on it but hope to get a good enough start so I can be ready to attempt some cultivating by tuesday.
Thanks
