Hi, a couple of years ago, i put a new clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing on. Everything has been ok since then. Last week I was mowing when the tractor quit moving. After tearing it apart found that the clutch disc center had torn out of it. After speaking with the sales rep on this web site. We wondered if anyone had ever tried to switch this over to a 6 inch clutch instead of the 5.5. If worse comes to worse I plan on replacing the clutch disc and the pilot bushing everything else looks great. Also the choise on the clutch disc is either solid or spoked. Just want something heavy duty..don't want to do this again ...not that fun. thank-you

You might want to check your motor mounts. My 184 did about the same thing as your 154, and the mounts were broken letting the engine get out of line with the drive shaft breaking the clutch disc hub. Made new mounts out ot thicker metal and haven't had any more problems since.

Do as jbp tells you first if motor mounts are ok than look at the frame were it bolts to the trains-axle look for cracks that"s what happen to mine. Both are a common problem with the 154.

Thanks for all your info, I checked the motor mounts today...the 2 l shaped ones in front and the thicker ones in back. All look good with no broken pieces or cracks found..also today I used a gear puller to remove the plate on the front of the trans..I wanted to check the pilot bushing..although not destroyed in any way, I think I will replace it..cheap enough. Any ohter input would be great as I would like to find some reason this happened while I have it torn down this far. Also the clutch plate on this site is $44.00 while the factory one is $199.00???thoughts on that after market VS factory . solid plate Vs spoked model ..once again ..Thank-you for your input.
