H carb troubles

need help with my carb. try to start tractor and it blows raw fuel out exhaust. cleaned carb, checked float for holes, not sure what to check next. any ideas greatly appreciated

The fuel shutoff was probably left on. (this sounds like a bossy thing, but the tank valve must be turned off between uses. Even 15 minutes can make the issue happen.
I would disconnect the coil, Remove the spark plugs, and crank it till all the fuel is out of the cylinders. Also check the opil, it can run into the oil and dilute it to ruin the engine. If it smells of gasoline, or if a small amount in a tin cup will ignite with a match, it needs to be changed.
The needle and seat ar likely to be leaking some, and if the fuel is turned on it will fill the intake system (gravity feed). A new needle and seat and float adjustment will fix the real issue, but do shut off the fuel. Jim

I have a BAD habit of leaving mine on. Fortunately no issues so far that I am aware of. I will have to pay more attention to that before it does cause problems. or maby I should go check for issues.. :)

Thanks for the reminder

I turn mine off when I am done, mainly because they get little use. When I was on the farm we never turned them off. The needle and seat were higher quality then, though. If you forget to turn them off, all you lose is a little gas. Mine just have an occasional drip, no big deal, unless there are sparks around.

clean out the weep hole in the bottom of the carb or drill a hole in the bottom of the rubber intake air line you are going to bend a rod if a cyl fills up with fuel

Also check valve lash. Overly tight lash can also cause this. Although not likely, it is possible! Just another thing to check. Good luck!

The needle and seat got something stuck in it, or the float sank to the bottom of the bowl, or the float broke off of the pivot or the main jet unscrewed itself from the tube, or the choke rod or arm came off the shaft. All of these can cause the described problem.
