I have a 1939 H. Someone before me plumbed in two hydraulic lines to the back for impliments. Tried using them last night and not working. Can Someone give me a short break down how they work on this tractor? Its older than I and I have no book yet.

If the lines are hooked to elbows at the side of the tractor below the battery on the left, and opposite on the right, this will help.
The Liftall sustem has one way hydraulics.
The right side elbow is connected to an internal "T" that also supplies the left front elbow (not the left rear elbow). This means that they lift when the rod control is pulled all the way out, and hold when the rod is hooked on the little rod tab, and lower when pushed in all the way. This allows fluid to return through the same hoses it was supplied with.
The rear port on the left is a delay action port that is controlled by internal linkage to lift a trailing implement later than the front set (cultivators etc.) so that they continue to stay in the ground till the end of the row.
If it is plumbed as this describes, the two hoses are both supply, and both return, not a two way system where one is connected to one end of a cylinder, and the other to the other. That would do nothing but load the pump. Jim
 
Be sure the coupler is in place between the tranny and the pump. If someone took it out, the pump is not running. It was common to uncouple them when you were not going to use the pump. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
