removing H clutch

I was hooking up my "41 H to my haywagon in preparation for our big neighborhood 4th of July party when the clutch couldn"t be engaged or disengaged, so I started to tear into the clutch to find out what the problem is (the threads on the clutch pedal rod is fully extended, so I figure its the clutch)

According to the IH service manual, it says to remove three of the six clutch plate-to-flywheel bolts, move them inward to the three tapped holes and install them with washers under the heads. So as shown in the picture, I moved the three bolts from A to B (at the bottom of the photo), then removed the last three bolts on the outer diameter.

The clutch plate and clutch disc should drop off the flywheel, but they"re solidly on, which makes me think all I did was screw the first three bolts back down to the flywheel.

What am i doing wrong?

Nothing; jsut pry on the pressure plate & it will come off. There are no holes in the flywheel to thread into other than the outer rim.
The clutch fingers look like they have been hot; suggest replacement of the pressure plate, clutch disc, and throwout bearing.

If you have all six bolts out it is just stuck and need a little convincing to come loose. I can see you have the three bolts caping the clutch properly and they are not engaging the flywheel, only the pressure plate itself. Should come loose.

Thanks to both of you - the clutch came right out with no effort once I pried it a bit.

The next problem: the pilot bearing (a ball bearing!) was totally trashed - the ball separator was crumbled up , the balls were loose, and the outer race is still in the flywheel - I guess i'll have to go get a puller tool.

I'm used to pilot bearings being bronze journals - I'm surprised to find a ball bearing

Standard Operating Procedure - new clutch , pressure plate, and throwout bearing - always replace them together
