'53 Super H Hydraulic System?

Hi, Can anyone tell a newcomer to a Super H what type of hydraulic system this is on the tractor? Haven't really seen any pics of this type on any sites anywhere. Has 2 lines that run to the rear of the machine and has 2 actuating arms on it as well. Thank You!

Tom,
The lever that is hooked to the side of the tractor is what actuates the hydraulic pump that is located in the belly of the tractor. The valve that is on the side of your tractor allows pressure on either hydraulic line so you can run a two way hydraulic cylinder ( it will push out and pull in )It looks like you"re missing the rod that goes to the valve on the side of the tractor. These valves are often called " Christmas tree valves "

Hope this helps,
Pat

It is as Pat describes, Liftall "belly" pump (not live, the clutch must be driving the transmission in any gear or neutral to work) it also has a the "Christmas Tree" valve on it. I cannot see the pressure connection for the valve. from the Liftall.
It is usually from the Right hand elbow (shown in your pictuer with a brass plug) to the valve.
Without the hose, the valve would be disconnected, thus the pressure would revert to the 3 output elbows on the tractor casting, the one mentioned, another on the other side toward the front of the casting, and one toward the rear of that that is a delay lift/Lower port.
I would begin testing by seeing if the Christmas Tree is connected to the other side (can't see it in the photo).
If it is it still needs a control rod to the Christmas Tree valve lever.
If it is not, I would check the fluid level in the reservoir (cap with finger grips should be where the pipe with Union, elbow and apparent pipe plug) is located. The level of fluid in the res. should be 8 to 10 inches below the top of that union mating surface. (take the union apart to check level (not stock, or convenient at all. If there is fluid (Hytran, or 20wt non detergent engine oil), and the casting elbows (three) are plugged, then I would pull on the existing lever to see if the engine bogs down a little with some attendant noise. If so the pump is working (to some degree). If nothing at all changes, I would then check the drive coupling from the transmission countershaft, to the pump. A plate under the tractor behind the pump housing must be taken off to see this, (no fluid should be behind the plate, it is a dry location) Good luck. Jim

Guys, THANKS for all the info.. Very helpful. I'll tinker around tonight with it after kids are in bed. Here's a pic of what the other side has piped in. So all total, I have 3 hoses. 2 go to the rear off of the christmas tree and one from the right side with a quick connect. What type of implement could be used off the rear? Something like a blade, up and down? And what would the right side hook-up be used for? Man, I'm getting hooked on this stuff. I could see the slush fund $$$ gettin' used up quick!!!!!!
