Rear Tires for my H

I am looking to buy (2) 11.2-38 tires for my Farmall H. Where is the best place to buy tires? This tractor is just used for work. Also I need to slide one of my rear wheels to narrow the tractor up more than likely will have to torch off bolts. Is moving a wheel in on an H a big job? Thanks in advance.

A tire dealer that sells tractor tires. You do not need to use a torch. Soak them with penetrant for a while, and and use a wrench with a cheater bar, possibly a hammer. Power ratchet may work. Worst that can happen is that you will break the wrench. To move the wheel, turn the clamp either to the side or to the bottom and rock back and forth. A lot easier to move in than out. Support the axle housing securely and keep away from the wheel.

Exactly as CNKS says. When I had to move my wheels, I built a very stout sawhorse out of 2 x 4's (give it a good wheelbase and width so that its stable and won't tip) about 2 inches taller than the underside of the rear axle housing. Using a Cherry Picker I lifted the side I wanted to work on, slid the sawhorse under the axle and lowered the tractor back onto it.

Now you can loosen the wheel and move it around, but as CNKS says be very careful about the wheels - they're heavy. I wrapped a sling through the top portion of the wheel and put it under very light tension with the cherry picker when I was actually working on the wheel - its a nice safety

When the guy comes to mount your new tires, slip him a ten and ask him to move the wheel where you want it.

While an online tire store will have lower prices, unless it is within driving distance, you'll end up paying TOO MUCH after shipping.

Plus, good luck getting a local tire guy to install your online tires... Usually the local installers won't put tires on for you unless you bought the tires from them.

Local tire shop will be competitive, or even beat the online store's price after you take shipping into consideration.

Tire town in Kansas City had 11.2X38" buffed BKT tires for around $200 each. I bought a pair. They are fine. Next is CFI tire service in Des Moines IA. I bought 2-12.4X38 Titans for $350 each. These 2 places have the cheapest I could find in the country. I have an advantage in the fact that I travel alot for work so I can pick stuff up on the way through. Makes for cheap freight.

I put new 11.2 - 38 Titans on H three years ago for $218 but tires have gone up lately. They are not very wide though. Might be optical illusion but they look narrower than the old 10 in they are supposed to replace. They are on new 10 in rims.
