M 6 volt to 12 volt ignition

There is no reason to do so if it runs great. If you need to, you will need to decide if you want to stay with a generator, or use an alternator.
A 12v generator, VR, battery, coil (or ballast resistor, and light bulbs are needed. It will use original wiring all the way (except if you keep the coil and use a ballast resistor.
If going with an alternator, I would use a Hitachi from a mid 80s Nissan PU. Wired as shown in the attached diagrams from Bob M.
The Hitachi alternator terminals are "I" equals the Delco 10SI # 1 terminal. The S terminal equals the Delco #2 terminal. Jim
