JD 4420 chopper speed reducer

This is a new combine to me. Late model John Deere 4420 with an after market chopper speed reducer on the side. Is the speed reducer only for use when combining corn? Can you just leave it that way when doing soybeans too? When doing corn I assume you fold the sickle sections in the chopper outward. Do the sickle sections have to be folded inward when doing beans - will it work??

Our educational system is in serious trouble when people start spelling "John Deere," F - A - R - M - A - L - L.

It is also an indication that if you want to access the REAL knowledge pool, you come to the FARMALL board. In this case however, I think the question should be asked on the "combines" forum.
