Dip Stick on Farmall

Did they put oil dip sticks on Farmall tractors? The ID plate is so trashed I cant make out a model or year for this tractor i just know its a Farmall i'd guess late 50s or 60s model, and cant find a oil dip stick anywhere. I can see where one should be but it was never put there.

Also how hard is it to overhaul the engine the guy thats running it is putting more oil than fuel in the thing!
 
Many of the Farmall's pre-1955 used a pair of oil petcocks on the side of the oil pan to check the level. No dipsticks to be found. Most Farmall's are fairly simple to overhaul, there are a few exceptions depending on model. To try and identify it, hunt through some of the tractor photos on the left and try to find something that looks like it and go from there, or else post a picture of it. Sam
 
Most of the older farmalls only had it as an option, I believe the power units, (engine and clutch only, to power remote equipment), had it as standard equip. thus having the location to put it.
If you look on the left side, (as sitting on the tractor), of the oil pan there should be two valves, one a little higher than the other, this is where you check the oil level, you may even find a sticker there or the outline or remains of one, this noted the oil level.

As for rebuilding the engine, if you're somewhat mechanically inclined, it's a peice of cake, but to do a proper job you have to split the tractor.
 
yes. need model#.could also have petcocks on side of oil pan. who are you asking last question too? yourself or mechanic? not hard for me, but you i dont know.some people struggle to change a tire, or use a feeler guage, or dont even know where # 1 cyl. is.
 
Early International engine F-12"s had dipsticks on them up to 1934 before it became an option with block # 3193-D. When the block casting was changed, the dipstick location was deleted.
