414 into a 666

It's easy:
1. Purchase a 966, 1066, 1466, or 1566.
2. Purchase two 666 emblem decals.
3. Paste decals over the original 966/1066/1466/1566 decals.

The 400-series engines are too large to fit in the 666 frame easily. You would have to custom fabricate everything from the bell housing forward.

If you are starting with a diesel tractor you can install a 360 (300 series) engine pretty easily. Going with a 414 (400 series) is a problem because it is taller and longer.

I dont know if you have 312 diesel in there now or want to convert gas to diesel, IH had 2 series of 6 cyl diesels called 300/400, blocks are physically smaller for 300 series D312/DT360, length, height, nothing fits the 400 series from the 300 with few exceptions, would be a formidable task to put in 656/666/686.

Haven't done it, but am starting on a 560 soon, so I'll tell you what I think I know. Any rear engine plate from a common 400 series tractor engine will bolt to your clutch housing, but the flywheel will be too far forward to engage the starter (at least that's the case on a 560). A spacer will have to be made to move the flywheel rearward enough to work. Don't know about the ring gear diameter on the 666, but the flywheel has to be turned down to fit a 560 ring gear for it to work on my tractor, might have to do the same on yours. The front engine plate will bolt inside the frame rails, but has to be machined narrower to fit between the 560 rails, possibly on yours, too. The engine will probably be too long for the fan to fit behind the radiator, so the rails might have to be lengthened a little, or a spacer machined to fit between the rear of the rails and the engine plate, which is what I might do. In my case, the fuel tank has to be modified to clear the valve cover. The rest involves linkage and plumbing, which shouldn't be a big deal. It's definately not a bolt-in deal, but it can and has been done. These are the things I've read or been told, I may be wrong, and will find out how wrong as I do the swap this fall/winter. I'll be an expert by spring...

toolz,

The 666 bell housing is based off a 460 (FOUR-sixty), which is smaller than a 560.

It won't bolt up.

The rear engine plate will have to be custom machined.
