Farmall H Voltage

Over the past several weeks I have posted about charging problems with my H. Everyone's posts were very helpfull and I have grounded my feild terminal on the genny to a bolt that was out there close by. Re-polarized and ammeter went to high charging side. When lights come on the needle drops quite a bit but does not go to discharge. I placed my multimeter on the battery with lights off and tractor running and I am getting a reading of approx 13.8 volts. My question is that I'm only running a 6 volt system. Am I gonna fry my battery with this high voltage? Is it possible that when my genny was rebuilt it was mistaken for a 12 volt? When I turn my lights on with the tractor running I drop approx .2 volts. I've also had a problem with my antifreeze bubbling and coming outta the overflow tube, I'm talkin a steady stream comin out not just a few drips. I did not have a problem with this before I grounded the genny feild post, it may have nothing to do with the charging system but I figured I'de throw it out there. As always, any help is appreciated!

When my H's coolant overflowed it was because I needed a new head gasket. I got a torque wrench and did it, and it was not too hard.

13.8 volts is way high for a 6v system, if you have turned on your lights and they didn't blow out in 10 seconds, the battery might be 12v and it might be a 12volt system. If the battery has 6 cells (six holes to put water in) it is a 12v battery.
Check the voltage with it turned off. (I bet it is 12volts. Jim

Chris, quick piece of friendly advice as a new participant in this forum:

Two questions, two separate posts. At least, put them in separate paragraphs.

You mashed them together into a single paragraph, with your second question right smack in the middle. Most people only read the first and last sentences in a paragraph.

Addressing the generator issue in one thread, and the coolant issue in another thread would ensure that you get the best advice for both problems.
