My A is running!!

After a long, hard fight, my son and I got the A running today. It turns out it was out of time. The magneto impulse coupling was doing its job about the time the piston was at the bottom of the stroke. I had taken out the magneto and didn't get it back in the right spot. But we figured out where it should be firing, bolted it up and it started on two pulls. No problems at all. Still a little to do, but here are some shots of it. If it looks pink, it's the light when we took the pictures. Honest!!

1939 Farmall A. Serial No. 1482

The handsome guy on the tractor is my son Eric. He takes after his mother. The ugly old guy is me.

Beautiful job. It"s obvious a lot of love went into the job. What is the history of this unit to you ?

I was a somewhat rural kid who went to an Agric. high school.. We had Farmall tractors and I worked on farms with Farmall's. Never did become a farmer, but l always wanted a tractor. My son found this at a meet in No. Carolina and we bought it. The previous owner was from Tennessee. I think I'll try to get its history just for the hell of it. I've had it about three years.

Beautiful! I have a 1939 as well, with the serial number plate on the pedal guard. Nice tractor you have.

Hi Enar: Great looking Farmall: Nice to see the Deering decal and hand crank etc. Real nice looking and I'll also add that you don't look ugly while standing by your Farmall.. :)-
ag..
Ps: how high is the air pressure in those rear tires. 12-15lb normal w/no weights?

You've done a good job on your tractor. It probably looks better than when new. I did this A back in 1975. It was in sad shape when I bought it for $100.00 including the 16-inch plow.
Sure plowed the garden nice. Hal

I'm not sure what it is worth. Probably a lot less than what I put into it. But it's not so much what's it's worth in dollars. It has a far greater intrinsic value as most restorers would most likely agree with.
