Every thing was going so good till I put the head on the BA. Tried to turn it over and I can get it to TDC on #2 and 3 or if I turn it back wards TDC on #1 and 4 but that is where I run into a problem from there it locks up. Now to fill in the gaps a bit. I used the block from the B that had the dome pistons but the head from the A that had the flat top pistons. But I do not remember if I tried to turn the engine over a full 360 before I set the head on or not so not sure if it is the problem with the head or maybe I put the rods in back wards but I do not think so since I looked at the numbers on the A engine and all the # where on the oil filter side. I think maybe the A head has been milled or something and I know that would cause this problem. Oh well guess I'll go out and pull the head back off

It's worth a look for cleareance issues. If you don't already try takin the oil pan off and have someone turn the engine and watch for anything it might be hitting

Ya I got the piston in 180 out so the dome area hits the head and all. Didn't think about which way they sat when I pull them out and then used the flat head pistons to go by when I put them back in figuring the # stamps on the rods would always be on the same side of the engine when installed but have since found out that is not true. I loosen up the head then tried to spin it over and the head lifted up. I tried that will all 3 heads and got the same thing. Bad thing is I know better then not to look but didn't look any how

Ya and if I remember right there is even a mark that says forward on the top of the pistons and I'll bet I have those all facing to the back instead of to the front. Guess I need to slow down a bit or go buy some beer LOL

Sometimes they are marked but not always i remember that the # on the rod goes on the same side as the cam. How high is the dome if its one of the newer type they have a pretty high dome and that will cause a problem starting if you are using a mag. You need a dist so you can set the advance. There was a directive from I-H stating a dist was needed. I ran into that once. Couldnt get it to start with the mag then put a dist on and presto. My old I-H mech told me he remembered that directive. This was on an A with B front and new Woods6ft belley mower. Hmowed around 6A so we wanted power ect. Moved left wheel out with two wts. He mowed the dam on the pond said he should have had that setup yrs ago.

I have a choice of a distributor or mag and I have gone with the distributor guess I did that right. Yep the dome is pretty high and is high enough I think it te valve where set way wrong they might hit the pistons even. As for the rear end I plan to have duals on the left side with a single wheel weight on the outer one and on the right side a cast center off this of one of the Bs and then also a wheel weight. It may look a tad funny with 3 rear tires on it but I figure it would be more prone to flipping to the left so the duals should help keep that from being a problem. Then after I have it running I get to mount the sickle bar mower on back then try to figure out how to set it up with a hyd lift but that is the future
