Cub generator

The generator on my 1949 Farmall Cub is a 6V positive grd Delco 1101355. It is a 3 brush unit with a cutout relay. Would it be possible to convert this to use a voltage regulator or do I have to change the generator as well.
Thanks

I agree with the Rusty one, Ive seen 3 brush gennys that used VR's and others that used Cutout Relays. If changing from a relay to VR, one might want to adjust the third brush (if its adjustable) for the max charge setting as the new VR will take care of regulation. The other option is use of a 3 (BAT ARM FLD) terminal versus a 4 terminal (BAT FLD LOAD ARM) VR and Bobs diagrams should cover either choice, the 3 is simpler to wire up. You no longer (if you swap relay for VR) run any wire from FLD on the genny up to the LHBD light switch if thats what it had

Be sure you get the correct regulator for that generator. If you want more out-put with what you have adjust the third brush for more amps.
