Things don't go as planned

Well my buddy borrowed my tractor again to cut firewood. No problem, he is a real good friend and does a lot for me. Apparently, he had a chain wrapped around the fast hitch on my IH 340. He needed to unhook the trailer in the woods at some point to pull out a log and let the arms down to set the trailer on its jack. One of the cylinder hoses got pinched and started spraying at the fitting. Guess its time to replace another hose. Also, learning as you go, my $500 super A is up to over $3000. But, it is almost done and I sure have learned a lot from all of you and now know better what to look for when I see a "cheap" tractor I want to redo. Thanks

suprising how quick the dollars add up when you re-do a tractor. ya gotta do it cause you like the tractor, not to make a profit on it.

Mark,I refuse to restore a tractor thats all ready in good shape.Every tractor ive done has been a basket case, this way I have a bond with it and the learning experience is unreal

It was a "basket case" but I didn't know to what extent. Anyway it is my sons, he's 8 and we bought parts for it when he got good grades or did extra work around the house. He wants to take it to antique shows with his grandpa even though he's not allowed to drive it yet. It was money WELL spent and I already got the return working on it with him. I will never sell it and I hope he doesnt either when I'm gone.

I agree wholeheartedly. My friends and wife don't quite seem to understand why I "need" so many tractors.

Tell your friends and wife you are on the 12 step program to get cured of Farmallitis. Once you have 12, your cured, or maybe not! Steve

I have an old Chevy in the shed that I have had for over thirty years. A friend of mine asked when I am going to fix it up. I told him that it is getting too expensive to restore cars anymore and I would rather restore tractors because it is cheaper to do. I then went on to tell him the time and money it took to restore the five tractors I have. Then I told him how I had to get a bigger pick-up and big trailer to get them places. He looked at me and told me that it didn't sound like the tractors were cheaper to restore than my old car. I didn't say anything to him, just figured he didn't understand. Allan.

Just tell "ole waht's her name" that you only need as mant tractors as she has pairs of shoes!

What gets me is the guys that have a tractor that has a maket vaalue of $1500, PUT 4-5 K in it and then try to sell it for the 4-5K.
