I searched the archives and looked a Bob M's info but I still need a second opinion. My '51 M has been converted to 12 volt. The amp gauge is hooked up according to Bob's chart. The amp box has the junction block and the fuse holder mounted on the face of the box. Does the power-in come from the + side of the amp gauge to the fuse and then to the light switch or is there another way?
Thanks, Doc

(quoted from post at 16:50:14 11/17/10) Positive ground w/ Delco 3-wire alt.

Hopefully one of the experts will be along. I did not realize that unit could be used with + ground. There were some old HD alternators that were pos though.

What is the problem with your system???

Correction!!!! It's negative ground but all the pictures of the amp box and light switch connections are positive ground and 6 volt. Sorry for the confusion. I need the connections for the fuse and light switch on 12 volt-neg. grd.

The fuse should be on the supply side of the light switch as this protects the most components.
Amp gauge, fuse holder side terminal, fuse holder rear terminal, light switch. I also recommend a fuse link in the Alt output (heavy) wire this can prevent tractor fires if a diode pack goes in the alt. 5 amps greater than the Alt amp rating. Available at NAPA or other store. Jim

Jim; Is the fuse link you describe the one in Bob's drawing? I had this M running and charging before I tore it down to refurbish but no lights were working then. I am putting all new wiring, new gauges, new light switch, and new lights and I hope to only have to do this once.

Thanks, Doc

Bob has many drawings, so I am unable to say yes.
My illustration for a alternator always has a fuse link at the source of voltage that supplies the amp gauge from the battery (usually the starter switch terminal connected to the battery. Jim

Jim; On Bob's drawing #5 he has either a warning light or a diode substitute #1N4001 to be put between alt#1 and the ign switch. Would this be correct from your viewpoint? I have not seen your diagram.
Doc

Either is just fine The light must be 150 milliamps of load to work reliably, the diode must have its band end toward the alternator terminal. the light or diode is in series with the wire to #1.
My illustration is for a mag ignition, and is not designed for a point and coil distributor ign. THe light from a side marker light , or dash illumination light is fine (not a LED type). THe light can be located such that it is like a car idiot light and shows alternator state of operation (in a on off manor). Jim
