Howdy,
There was a discussion on here (or tool forum) a while back about problems with using niacin. Is it possible to find that post if all I know is that people were didcussing niacin side effects?
Thanks
Bob S.

Bob,
Obvious answer is search "all forums" archives keyword Niacin.
I have been taking this twice daily (am/pm) for several years:
Vitamin C - 1000mg Fish Oil - 1000mg Niacin - 500mg
The combination of Vit. C and Niacin work better than niacin alone.
Niacin has lowered my LDL and Tryglicerides(sp) significantly.
There are 3 forms of Niacin
Niacin MUST be in the form of Nicotinic Acid to work.
Niacinimide and Inisotol Hydrox...(sp) do not work.
Flush Free Niacin is very hard on the liver and does not work as well.
I happen to enjoy the flush. To me it is relaxing and calming.
I just sit in quiet time and enjoy the warmth of the flush.
If I drink coffee with the Niacin I get a super flush.

Thanks Dell,
Niacin is giving me problems with bloating to a point that it affects my breathing, just wanted to see if any of the other guys had such a problem with it. I'll try to find that old post.

Bob, I've been doing the Niacin thing for probably 20 years now. I take 750 mg. three times a day (morning, lunch and at bedtime). I rarely have any flushing or other undesirable affects from it. I try to take the first two times each day with a meal if possible. I use the straight stuff and not any time release variety. My pharmacy orders it for me in 1000 tablet bottles in a 500 mg. size so I have to split a tablet to go with a full one. The large bottle costs around $20.00. Along with watching my diet and normal farm exercise I have had very good results and rarely ever test with triglycerides over 70, LDL last time was about like always at 94 and the HDL at the same level of 94. There has never been a liver or kidney test with any inflated values or issues. Seems to work fine for me ever since I started taking it back in 1990. Hope you are doing well also, Hal.

Hal,
Are you sure you are getting 1000/500mg for $20. If you are that's a heckuva deal. Is it a chain pharmacy or a local. What brand are the niacin tabs.
I am paying $9 for 100 tablets.
Thanks,
Dell

Del, I just went and got the bottle to answer your questions. Yes, it is for sure 1000 500 mg. tabletsof Niacin. The brand name is Rugby, from Rugby Laboratories, Inc., Deluth, GA 30097 and the bar code on the bottle is 0536-4078-10. I started taking these back in the Seattle, WA area and that was the brand I bought there as well at a Costco store. I now get them from a small local pharmacy (only around 6 stores or so in a two county area) who orders them in for me. The last bottle cost $23.87. They do in fact exist and have always been easy to obtain for me anyway, Hal.

That's it and the same bottle. It has worked great for me as stated earlier. Looks like the price is one you can be happy with also, Hal.

I'm on niacin for my cholesterol, and that's what I pay for a 1000 tab bottle of 500MG at my local chain store pharmacy. A little less, actually.
