drained oil out of rear end and small piece of metal like 1/8 in. needle bearing came out about 3/16 in. long are there needle bearings in rearend?if so where did it probably come from other wise oil wasnt to bad for being in there from ???

Only place a M rear doesn't have ball bearings is the pilot bearing on the front of the main shaft. If it looks to be a complete roller the size sounds a little small for a roller out of that bearing. Some did get updated inner roller axle bearings if repaired before, but they are a way bigger roller than you discribe.

I think the only needle brg. is the pilot brg.. I have an old one on my garage bench, the needles are roughly 1/2 inch by 3/16. Guess I better start shopping for a new brg. before I forget how it goes back together.
