IH 504 Hyd. Oil Filling

On top of the PTO housing there is a large 1.250" Hex plug. Is this where I fill for all hydraulic oil or just for the PTO, I have added 2 gal so far. thanks to all

If it has independant pto, which it sounds like it has with a large plug on top of pto, that is a seperate unit with own oil and it only holds like one quart. Frankly, I don't see how you could get two gallons in with out running over. There is another filler plug or plate on top of deck for main case and check plug on side for level.

Neither. That plug is for adjusting the PTO clutch.

The correct fill plug is on top of the transmission cover near the gear shift. A 1 1/2 plug with a 3/4 square recess for a 3/4 breaker bar to turn it. PTO is lubed from the rear housing.

The level check plug is on the left side of the transmission housing below the clutch pedal. With no power steering, it is a 1/2 inch pipe plug. With P/S the check plug is a 1/8 inch pipe plug in an elbow that is the P/S return line.
