Hello. I Have a 400 Farmall with three hyd valves. My questionn is why do the outlet ports on the inside set point to the back? it seems that is not very handy to hook up or use this set- they point to the rear and to the sheet metal under the dash. how do you use these? thank you.

Well there are a couple of reasons:

1. The first valve in the stack always goes to the rear remotes and it is cheaper to plumb from the back side for that valve. Plus the guys on the assembly line didn't have to cope with the tin shroud.

2. The first valve is different from the other two. It only has two service ports. The opposite side single port is used for the PS U-tube.

3. The back side of the two outside valves are covered with the lever bracket for all three valves.

4. The manifolds for the outer two valves need to exit to the front to simplify the mid-tractor hydraulic outlet position. Those four steel hydraulic lines take up alot of space. Why complicate all that spaghetti with two more ports?

There are probably a few more reasons but those come to mind. Just pull back the shroud and have at it. It shouldn't shorten the remaining time you have left on this earth.

Steel lines from the valve that exit at the right rear of the battery box are missing from the tractor. Rear lines were standard equipment if tractor was equiped with that valve.
Picture of the lines are shown at e bay item # 400179837333. Would not recommend purchasing any of those lines site unseen unless the seller was known to be okay or they would stand behind a guarantee. Lot are rusted or pitted from corrision.
Seller of the lines lists almost everything for sale in good original condition, or as was told by previous owner it was in good original condition. May be, but to put it nicley my opinion of some items pictured in the sales is different.

Here is a picture of how the factory rear hydraulic line looks when installed. It runs between the valve unit and the dash shroud, along the deck and to the back of the battery box.

thanks for the info guys! mine has a set of couplers like it does for the other 2 valves, they just point back instead of forwards.
