The 450 has a mechanical TA, so the only actual "moving part" is the TA clutch. It's a dry clutch so cold stiff oil wouldn't affect its operation.

Hytran isn't particularly stiff in cold weather anyway.

Please describe what you mean by "not as responsive."

You didn't say how it was unresponsive, but yes for some things especially if its not the correct type oil used.

The guy said it worked good in warm weather when plowing..He said it is slower to engage in the winter.(MN)

As long as the tractor doesn't stop moving at any point in the "engagement" I guess it's probably normal.

I can see where stiff cold oil might cause the TA to behave as if it were still in direct, or somewhere in between. Especially, if they put the wrong oil in there, like SAE90 gear oil or similar.

TA-equipped tractors should have Hytran in the transmission.

In cold weather the rollers in the overrunning clutch will not move well if you have heavy oil in transmission. If they don't move they won't lock up the carrier to prevent it from spinning backwards and if that happens your tractor will stop moving when in low position (ta). Even with HY TRAN they will be stiff so it is adviseable to stay in direct drive until transmission is warmed up for a while.

dont really think the TA has application to apply it to in cold weather. what are you doing to be running out of power? the real place i would like to use it is at the antique tractor pulls. this is the perfect situation that it was designed for , when you start running out of power just pull the lever and leave the J.D'S behind. but no thats not allowed, wonder why, cause the jd guys making the rules have a say in the matter.but it dont matter cause ihc was always ahead of jd till the 2 cyls. ended production.

Their still ahead of JD. Just because there may not be as many sales doesn't prove a thing. Just look at GM.
