farmall h brake band

does anyone have any ideas on cleaning up the break bands on a farmall h. i was thinking about running a wire wheel over the padding as it was pretty nasty looking. theres a good bit of padding left so i don't really want to buy new bands or have them repadded.

I've cleaned up oil soaked brake bands using solvent and wet/dry sandpaper. I think also that abundant amounts of aerosol carb cleaner and maybe a wire bristled brush should work. You might also try immersing the band in a oan or bucket of disel fuel and let it soak for a day or two, and then follow up with the carb cleaner.

To get the oil off I have used a small torch and let them smoke. You don't have to get them real hot after oil is burnt off I clean with sandpaper,

I have good results sandblasting them cleans the oily film and brings up new material and they work very good.

thanks to all your responses. heating up the grease with a torch and using sandpaper on them did a nice job. my trtactor appears to have brakes again haha. thanks
