I-H 239 Diesel modifications

I have a 239 Diesel from a 547 I-H tractor. What would be involved, internally, to install a turbo. I am also looking at modifying the governor to be throttle governed, for road use, and not RPM governed as a tractor is. Does any of you diesel mechanics have experience that is helpful to me? I would like to make the changes described during an upcoming overhaul.
Regards,
Alan

I can say to install a turbo on this engine there is nothing you can do internally. A factory turboed block would come with piston cooling jets that spray oil on the under side of the pistons. I would see if you can find a different oil pan (more capacity). Like an M+W pan on a 4020 JD. Or hook up an oil cooler in front of the new vehicals radiator.

The cooling jets would be in the connecting rods. If you just put a turbo on it and not turn up the fuel, it would actually lower your EGT's and be less likely to burn up a piston or valve.

Don't worry about the governor. If you somehow over-rode it, you would have to move the throttle to make each minute adjustment to fuel delivery that the pump already does on its own. The trick is getting the linkage set up so that you can actually push the pedal down.

Thanks for the comments. I wish I had more experience setting up injector pumps. I do have a hunch that the pump could have the governor changed to be throttle governed and not RPM governed. Has anyone else got a good shop or diesel mechanic friend that I could speak to? How about PN"s for a turbo rebuild kit for the 239 diesel out of my 574, any help?
Regards, Alan

Where is the best source for rebuild parts for the 239 I-H diesel? And what about the add-on turbo? Still hoping to learn a bit more about governor mods. that will allow the injector pump to be throttle governed and not RPM.
