have a chance to buy a ihc w-6, been restored ,motor, tires, repainted, wide front, looks good in pictures, talked to seller, asking 3k, might take less. what your opinion. i think tractor wieghts around 5k. love those big boys toys. bob

I would buy it if its restored and you can get it for $2000-$2500. A W-6 weights about 5500 pounds and 70 inches wide. You wont need a deckover for that.

if the tractor has been gone thru and has good rubber on it, the price isnt bad. if you bought a fixer upper, you'd have way more in it than that.

(quoted from post at 07:12:46 01/25/11) Putting a price on the tractor is conditional on seeing the reciepts for the rebuild and parts used. There are many ""restorations"" that amount to 50/50 paint jobs. 50 miles an hour at 50 feet away they look great. Jim

I have come to call that "parade ready." Whenever you see a tractor that is "parade ready" it would definately look good in a parade...it is shiney and has good tires...after that the paint is thin and runs and fisheyes and orange peal and oil leaks...you get the picture.

I figure that tractor is a good deal if it does have new tires. One would assume the sheetmetal is fairly decent if it has been restored. Even if he doesn't like the job the guy did he would still be money ahead over a fencerow find. In addition to reciepts, I value the work of a qualified mechanic over a normal guy in the engine rebuild department.

I just bought two w6's this fall. Both good runners and good metal. The paint is actually good on one. The tires are fair , paid $600 each. New tires are likely $1600.

A good 7000 lb car hauler will transport with no problems unless the tires are ballasted. My car hauler is 10,000 lbs gvw and have not had a problem. The M's need a deck over if the wheels are out.
The M's and w6's are very common and do not attract big money here in Alberta.
One thing I have found out is the better or more useful the tractor was the more of them sold and the cheaper they are to us now. I now have 3 w6's and 2 m's. Love them.

The poor selling expensive ,crappy or oddball tractor is worth bigger money.

hello everyone; went to look at w-6. new tires all around $1,500, real nice paint job, engine has been rebuilt,ex stack, new, paint not burnt yet. has about 1/2 day worth of running on it/ over few weeks of use. will be delivered to me weds, $2000 agreed upon. [with old school gentlemans hand shake] thanks for most of good imput, as for opinion of $500 [that would be an insult to any good tractor lover & a kick in the pants on the way out the door] lets never meet for a sale.

Good deal. You could hardly buy the tires for that money and now you (hopefully) have a restored W-6. I have seen more than one a-hole back out bc it is still advertised for $2500 and he gets a full price offer after your "accepted" offer. I believe Mr. Kirsh was sarcastically saying it was a good deal.
I also forgot to say there is "always" 10% on any asking price from what I have seen. You got 20% off on this deal so even better. It would have been a deal at $2250 if it is rebuilt well and looks as good as you say. NOW SHOW US SOME PICS when it comes tomorrow.
