Coolant 1976 1066

Time to replace the coolant in the tractor, what coolant is the right one? I know I could go to my dealer and get it, but would like to buy it a little cheaper. And, I assume it's a 50/50 mix. Operators Manual is slim on specs on the coolant fluid.

Tim: Most atifreeze's that specafy on the bottle that they're for diesels are fine for your 1066. Its more important to change your antifreeze every 3 to 4 years than to buy expensive antifreeze. just make sure its diesel approved. Kent

We run Fleetguards "Compleate" antifreeze in everything except our pickups & autos. We buy it premixed in 55 gal drums so we don't have to wonder when we pick up a jug if it's concentrate or has been mixed with water, it's always 50/50.

WE change antifreeze every 1,000 hrs or every other yr, whichever comes first.

Thanks for the responses guys. I change it every other year, I don't put that many hours on the tractor. I should really write it down as I forget and then look in the Op Man and remember there isn't much in there on it. Thanks again.

Not sure if all of the 66 series needed to have coolant additive (NorCool?) to minimize the corrosion effect of the two different types of metals in the engines. Not sure if this was still a problem with the 1976 version.

Question is , do you have a coolant filter on that tractor. If you are using a coolant that is not formulated to resist cavitation erosion, you should change the filter and use a recharge filter first time, if you can find one. Some dealers carry them and some just carry the regular maintenence filter which does have some DCA additive but not enough to fully charge a system. In that case you need to put in a pint or two of the additive. You can get a test strip to check to see if you have the proper amount in coolant. The main reason guys use the premix from CASEIH dealer or other imp dealers is it has the correct amount in it and the water is deionized for even more protection from erosion etc.

I"m switching over to ELC for all my rigs. Probably CAT ELC. Requires no additives and has quite a longevity. I"ll be flushing with Restore then using the CAT ELC concentrate topping off with distilled water. I should be good to go for years upon years.

If you don't use it much, just get the filter with the additive in it and change it yearly.
