I purchased a 300 that has water in crank case, has the TA trans, he says that it is probably just an O-Ring at top of cylinder hardened up after setting all year. He did not start it and I traded him out of it before any damage by starting was done. I know virtually nothing about this so I am trusting him to be honest on this one. I need help, if it is in fact an O-Ring what will it take to fix? Approx cost? will I have to take it to a shop or is it something I can repair? Do you think it might be a cracked head instead of the O-Ring? Everything else on the tractor is in very good condition so I think it is worth fixing? It was running fine when they parked it according to him. Please Help [email protected] 541-419-3637 Thank you

No O ring on the top or bottom of the sleeves on that engine. Could be a blown head gasket or worse, cracked head, or block. At this point the only thing you can do is tear it down have the head checked out and confirm the block is sound. Could be a 40 head gasket or 500 plus, no real way to tell with out a tear down and confirmation.

yea, o-ring sounds like a fairytale. pull the head and have a look. if you ever removed a head on a modern automobile you will see they are pretty simple to remove. bring the head to a machine shop and have them check it for you. look down into the pistons and engine block and do your best to look for cracks. replace the head gasket and head, drain oil and coolant and replace and you should be good to go..

The hardest part about getting the head off is the steering rod is in the way and the many cobbled repairs they always seem to have that make getting them off very difficult. I've seen more than one welded to the knuckles.

If it's an [u:d46345ce99]International[/u:d46345ce99] 300 like he said, the steering shouldn't be a problem. If it's a Farmall it would.
