Gasket Material

Gents,

I have my 400 torn down with the engine still in it and I am getting close to putting things back together. If you had to stock materials for making your own gaskets, other than the cork, what material and thickness would you have in your shop to cover most, if not all needs??

I get a soll of cork two thicknesses of the other material and one thickness of the paper saves lots of trips to town ect course i do buy sell and fix them all the time to it just makes sense to have the materials on hand.

I use a lot of breakfast food boxes. Newspaper makes fine thin gaskets.

You can get vegetable fiber gasket material from www.mscdirect.com

1/32" and 1/64" will cover most everything.

If you use alot of it NAPA has it. They sell by the foot and in different thicknesses.

Same here -- I've been using cereal boxes and paper juice cartons for years and never had a problem.
