Took the back pto cover off and found a small ball bearing in the bottom of the gear case. Not sure if it is a poppet ball. where exactly do the poppets go, and the two rods the shifter connects to, does the indents face upwards (into hole at top) or downward (toward bottom of gear case). also noticed the rods have a slit for lack of words. Appreciate the insight on this matter.

You will have to take the top cover off the transmisson to see where they go. If you have one missing you should be able to tell by the way it shifts. Should come in and out of gear very easy. Could be a ball from the rear bearing. I believe the top or bottom rear is a ball bearing. If that is the case you would have some serious noise in the transmisson.

If it was where I think you're describing, it could also be the poppet ball that holds the PTO shift lever in or out of gear. Those have been known to go astray.

I am tearing it down for a re-build. when you turn the long shaft by hand it sounds pretty rough and grainy. I did take the shifteer off also and found no other bearings or springs laying around or looking as if they belong somewhere as well.

Would anyone happen to have a pic as to where the poppets go? The parts manual really didnt help much... I do thank each and everyone of you for your help in this matter. When I start re-assembling it i dont want to screw anything up. Again thanks fellow cub owners!!!

Go to Farmallcub.com and go to the forum page for Cubs. At the top of the page you will see a manuals link. You can find a parts manual there. There is also a "How To" on the forum page. In that if you serch for transmission rebuild or something like that there is a step by step with pictures. Lots of Cub experts there that can answer most any question on a Cub.

Will do, headed to that website as I type. Thank you everyone for your time and expertise advice. It is greatly appreciated as always!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
