I"m restoring a Hebard A14V, the Shop Mule that used the Farmall H engine. It has a transmission noise problem. Upon disasssembly of the transmission, I found the gear on the input shaft is VERY pitted. Am thinking I should try to replace this gear and shaft with a better one. Can anyone tell me what kind of transmission was used in these A14V"s or give me any ideas where to pursue parts? There is a number stamped on the input shaft/gear and it is 72977H. Any help wuould be appreciated. Thanks!!!

I think that machine used a truck transmission. The "H" suffix part number suggests the same. I imagine the transmission is from a half ton truck. Check sources for truck parts of that vintage.

The A14V used a truck transmission. I expect it was an IH. So go to a good autoparts store like NAPA or CarQuest and have them research the number.
