300U Manual Steering with stock short arms.
I have developed a lot of slop in the right side pitman arm (gear shaft). The right side steering wobbles when traveling and the left side does not.
Gearbox does not leak.
There is no up and down play in steering shaft and no slop or play in the left pitman arm (lever shaft)
With front wheels off the ground and holding the steering wheel stationery I can not move the left pitman (no slop) but I can move the bottom end of the right pitman more that an inch (lots of slop).
I believe the eccentric adjustment (#21 a & b IT) adjusts the right side gearbox case to mesh the lever shaft and gear shaft closer but I have to change dowels in order to make that correction last.
The other two adjusting screws (#9 IT) are to adjust any side to side slop in the lever and gear shafts. There is about a ¼ inch sideway play in the gear shaft. Is that enough to let it jump teeth.
If I have a misunderstanding of the adjustment screws please advice.
It’s just to cold in my old barn to tackle a rebuild project now, so I’m open to any suggestions that will make it last till the weather warms.
Thanks,
Dell
