Farmall Super C water pump

I am replacing the water pump on my Super C. 1 bolt is behind the belt pulley and the lock washer on the new/used water pump is compressed and I want to replace it. Obviously the belt pulley has to come off. Is it pressed on? Is there any retaining screw?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

The pully may be held on by the same bolts that mount the fan -- hope I'm not confusing Case and IH here. In any case if the radiator is removed you should first be able to remove all the boldts except the one behind the pully. Then gradually back out the last bolt with an open end wrench as you pull the pump away from the block. John

I think hes is talking about the pulley on the water pump.

Its been a little while sence I changed the last one, but if I remember right there is 2 bolts that bolts it to the engine, then after you get it out theres 4 or 5 bolts that holds the pump to the housing, I remember changing some bolts because of rust, I know theres one thats close clearing the pulley but I thought it would, but maybe not cant remember, dont know for sure but I would think the pulley just presses on the shaft like most, if someone dont jump in and tell you I'll look to see if I have one off.

There is only the two bolts holding the pump to the block. Then the whold unit will come out you dont take anything else loose or off thats it just the two holding to the block. When you have removed them it will come loose from the block thats it. You dont need to remove the radiator just loosen the belt. Iv done it several times.

Dean have you been able to get that bolt by that pulley? if it dont need much you my be able to file one of the flat on the head bolt a little to make it clear, I know the other 4 bolts not a problem, looks like they could have gave just a little more room on that one. lol

I replaced my water pump on my SC last October. Water pump came from NAPA. Pully was pressed on. When I took off the old pump, the bearings were shot so there was slop so the bolt slipped right off. When I tried to mount the new water pump, couldn't get the bolt past the pulley. Was thinking about pressing off the pulley, but decided to get a 2 1/2 inch stud, screwed it into the front cover, slipped the water pump on and secured with nut/lock washer.

Excellent idea. That's what I'll do.

That's one of those idea's that after I read your response I thought duh!! I should've known that.

Thank you!
