Chipped Bull Gear

I was tearing down my M this weekend and found that the right hand bull gear had two teeth that were chipped pretty bad acrossed ~1/2 of the tooth. Can I take this to a machine shop and have it welded up or do I need to replace it? If i replace it, do I need to replace the gear in the differentail as well so they wear evenly?

You may be able to get some good used gears. You can try these places. Hal

I see caseih's website lists two different bull gears part #'s. My tractor is serial # 41,xxx. Will the newer ones work?

get you a new gear , i wouldnt replace the pinion gear, these are slow speed gears and will out last you and me if bearings are kept tight i have welded on gear teeth before with a mig and filed them down to match ,just chipped teeth though on my pulling tractor ,new gear is very hard to find AC rc gears and that was 6 years ago and had 3 times horse power run through it and still holding up M gears are easy to find and as hard as it is to change should be replaced just for peice of mind

Here's a good one on ebay. It's from an MD but that doesn't make any difference.

I bought some transmission gears from this guy before and had no problems. In fact I think they were from the same MD.

In looking at my M and MD parts catalog (unless I've missed something) the bull gears have part no. 51578DX for s/n's FBK 501 thru 149824, which includes your tractor s/n and for tractors FBK 149825 and up p/n 351790R11 was used. Both of these part numbers are noted as having 73 teeth. Hope this helps, Hal.
