I need a new starter but all I can find is a 2 hole housing and mine is a 3. The numbers I can see are 341. Also mine M was changed to 12v and all I see are 6v starters. Thank You

poco; if tractor was org 6v starter, and all you can find is a 6v'er, you can use it on a 12v system, 6v were stronger, just don"t grind starter for a long time. lot of conversions, kept 6v starters. possibly others will help confirm my statement, or correct my statment, this best to my knowledge.

I converted my 340 to 12v about 3 years ago and kept the 6v starter based on recommendations from this group. haven't had any trouble. just don't crank on it endlessly.

SM and SMTA, 400 450 gas all used the 3 bolt. 6v is just fine. Use a new style drive with no big spring on it and all is well. Jim

There has been some discussion on here before regarding the three bolt starters for these tractors. My understanding is that the Super M and the Super M-TA uses a starter with a different offset than the 400 and 450.

The part numbers I come with are:
Super M 2 bolt - 1107448
Super M 3 bolt - 1108012
Super M-TA - 1108012
400/450 6Volt - 1108038
450 12 volt - 1108173

All of the starters use the same starter drive. Any of them can be rebuilt to either 6 volt or 12 volt specs.
