Oil has been seeping from the engine cover on the rt side, behind the distributor. Replaced all gaskets and seals 3 yrs ago but this one has started leaking. I thought it's not that old. Maybe I could take it off, put some rtv on it and reuse it. Wrong. It was already dry and brittle. Broken in several places.
Anyone have any ideas where I can get this gasket? Searched this web site and ebay. Only complete sets for $75 to $90.

You could also use that magic gasket stuff that the dealer has, but I would use a gasket. It is something like 515 Gasket Eliminator. It is what they use on all the new equipment instead of gaskets.

Go to the dealer and buy the gasket.

You could use a high temp rtv but I prefer to use a new gasket. The thing about those gaskets is that they are so darn hard. I always used to take the steam cleaner and soften them up nice and then you didn't even use a sealer. That cover may require some attention also to get it back into shape, try it against the block without gasket to see how it fits. Then a nice narrow bead of rtv should seal it up. Hard to make that gasket as it is cork. Are available at the dealer.

Thanks for your response. Nearest IH dealer is 40 miles away. I think I'll try Napa first. I'll also see how it fits against the block and make sure it's not bent or twisted. I do travel around a lot so may be near the IH dealer in a few days. Not something I have to have right away. Good ideas. Jim
