How do you know if it is a "Heavy" spring? - Farm

So I'm wondering... I'm a good 60-70 lbs heavier than my grandpa ever was. I would assume he had the seat spring on his '52 H for lighter operators. Is there any way to tell by looking at the spring if you have one for normal operators vs. a heavy operator like myself?

yes, look on the top of the spring (toward the end of the spring) there will be notching marks, one for light, two for medium and three for heavy. You have to remove spring to see this, rust removal maybe needed to see also.

Thanks for the info, Andrew. I haven't actually sat on his tractor yet since it is 700 miles away. I hope to get it up here this summer.

I think I'll pass on the football :D

hate football, takes to long to play a hour game/four hours later.[lol] depending where the shock is mounted on seat bracket, how strong assembly still is "rust" you can get a gas charged shock to help. been there/done it.

IIRC, even the "heavy" spring is only meant for people up to 225lbs.

You're going to need something more than that spring if you're anywhere near 225lbs.

We've rolled two springs together, and it makes for a nice ride.

I have new replacement springs that are the heavy duty type. In fact, the heavy duty rated springs are the only thing available now. They are just right for a 230# operater.

I wouldn't worry about it I weigh more than that and the seat is fine on our H and MD. The H has the original spring far as I know since Grandpa bought the tractor new. The one on the MD I welded 20 years ago still there.

I just saw this on ebay:

Item number: 130496489950

eating donuts makes sense, cause there ain"t nothin" in the middle!!

(quoted from post at 18:40:17 03/22/11) The seat spring on my 450 broke a few days ago. Guess I need to start looking.

For a spring or a diet???? LOL just kidding around....
