Ok my 966 farmall sporadically will just stop steering. No fluid to the steering cylinder. This is what I checked and know. The 2 hydraulic lines going to the power steering valve have no fluid pressure. I traced them to a fitting block on the frame. Removed it and cranked tractor. Nothing. The remotes work just know steering. Usually after a minute or so it will start working. Any help is appreciated. I'm learning as I go

There are others on this forum that are more well versed on the 966 than I am, but I think your problem is that a seal or o-ring inside the trans has failed, and instead of the hydraulic pump sucking oil, it is sucking air. The quick solution is to over-fill the transmission by maybe 10? gallons, and most will agree I think that overfilling will do no damage, and can be considered a permanent cure.

Your problem is either in the MCV (mutipule control valve )Or the pump is shot those are the two most common problems.
On the bottom of the MCV there is a valve carefully unscrew it check for broken parts, the other on is on the back side of the MCV about half way up there are 2 hex heads one is a 5/8 wrench take it out and put a gage in there and see if you have about 1500-2000 psi this will be at rated PTO engine speed .If not then remove the one above it and check for broken springs. This should check most of the issues with the MCV and pressure. If you need more info post back. I will try to help you more then. I would also change the filter at this time if it hasn"t been done real recently.
