digital tach problem #2

I'm redoing a 1586 thats had a hard life - gonna be my big tractor. Got the digital data center going along with wipers radio when I fixed the cab relay. But my tach shows like 3000 rpms, MPH floats between 50 and 0 and the EGT is around 7000. Can anybody help me out as to where to start - the dash bad? Kinda doubt all the sensors would be bad at the same time. Any help would be great. Thanks. When I get it done I'll have to put some before/after pics up.

Your tach display unit needs to be checked over. There are several places (Ag Express Electronics) that can repair this for you. DO NOT try to open the unit up. There is nothing inside you can fix.

Timis: Sounds to me like you are about to stall. Better adjust the prop a little bit. Then fix it after you land. lol

Hi, if it is possible check the wiring harness for proper the voltage (+12V) and most important is check the GROUND wires in the harness. A bad GROUND wire will drive a digital dash wacky. I know nothing about a 1586 but have had many experiences with a digital dash and electronic climate control on a 91 OLDS.

Good luck

Might be worth a try to pull unit out far enough to get the module out of the back. It is near top and you can just pop it out. Clean the little bars on it with the eraser on a pencil and give it a try. If this helps or works for a while you can be sure the problem is in the unit itself. Other wise, check the inline fuse down by other fuse box, it is for tach. The data center has two power in wires. One from that fuse and one from keyed power off cab relay. That multli pin connector on back of data center can easily have damaged pins also. The ground connection is on the left front cab mount and cab has have good ground to frame also. The connectors on both rpm and mph could be problem as well as a build up of crud on the ends of the transducers. EGT problem is a seperate issue and never were reliable. I would forget about that part of it .
